End of Ubuntu 18.04

๐ŸŽ‰ Hello! Ubuntu community! ๐Ÿš€

As we approach the end of May, it’s important to note that standard support for Ubuntu 18.04 ‘Bionic Beaver’ is coming to a close. ๐Ÿ“… But wait, there’s more to the story!

While the standard support is ending on May 31, 2023, it’s crucial to highlight that Ubuntu Pro subscribers have the advantage of Extended Support Maintenance (ESM) for an additional 5 years. This means that the true end-of-life date for the Beaver is extended all the way to 2028. ๐ŸŒŸ

If you’re unsure about the support you have, it’s likely that you fall under standard support. Ubuntu Pro is an optional subscription that you can sign up for, and it even comes free for personal users on up to 5 computers. By enabling Ubuntu Pro through the Software & Updates app in Ubuntu 18.04, you can ensure extended support with critical security patches for both the pre-installed software and software in the repositories until April 2028. ๐Ÿ’ช

But don’t worry if Ubuntu Pro isn’t your cup of tea. If you prefer to stick with the current version and avoid reinstalling, there’s another option. You can upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS from 18.04 with a stable internet connection. Although this requires a bit more effort on your part (remember to back up your data before proceeding), it’s a well-established upgrade path. ๐ŸŒ

So, if you’re still using Ubuntu 18.04, it’s time to assess your options and consider the best path forward. Share your experiences and fond memories of using 18.04 in the comments below! Let’s keep the conversation going. ๐Ÿ˜Š
